Update on Ken...

Ken went to the THIRD Orthopedic Surgeon yesterday, who does specialize in foot & ankle surgery. He LOVED her! The surgery is set for Tuesday May 15th.

She said it will take about 6 weeks for the bones to heal and then whatever it takes to start walking again. She said the whole thing could take 3 - 6 months. Knowing Ken the timing will be even shorter than that! He will have stainless steal plates & pins put in and we'll have to see after the surgery about future bone fusions.

He came home sooo happy because he got such a good vibe from her and I think also because now he feels at least has a future! The worst fear is the fear of the unknown. He wasn't even sure if he was ever going to walk again after seeing the other doctors who just told him that is was BAD and that they wouldn't do the surgery!

Also, she said it IS just the heel. He was so afraid that it was the ankle too because that area is still sooo swollen. But she did say that a big peice of heel is so far up and has to be put back down and that is a bit complicated. But he said she seemed very confident and competant and they just really hit it off. He has complete confidence in her - what a great feeling! (I'm sure it doesn't hurt that he said she looks like a model! LOL!)

She also put the third cast on him....this one's good though...even he said he'll need his power tools to get this one off! He keeps saying that the casts hurt so much. But he did also say that he is going to do his part and he will keep this one on til surgery! I hope so because I'm running out of places to keep our new cast collection!

So, this was the BEST news yet! Yesterday was a really great day here! We even had Kenny Jr. and Grandma here for dinner and Ken actually sat at the dinner table (not that he's supposed to be up and about but you try and stop him) and we had a real family dinner for the first time in a while! Very nice!

Meanwhile the flood saga is ongoing. We were hoping FEMA would help us out a little with getting our neighbors asphalt driveway off our property...but the gentleman from FEMA came out today and shot that down. They are much more concerned right now with the people who's barns landed three miles down the road in the tornadoes (and rightly so!).

Thanks again for all the prayers & positive thoughts - as always - they're working!!!!!

Love, L xo
