Ken had his surgery today. I still haven't been able to talk to the surgeon but he says she said it went well. I don't know how many but the assisting doctor that I did speak to said that he has MANY stitches, the heel was in atleast 6 bigger pieces and many little ones. He said he will be in ALOT of pain over the next week and about three months to heal. He has to really stay off it. He is in another cast and better keep this one on! He ended up sawing off the other over the weekend with three of my biggest knives - very nearly gave me a stroke! He threw up when he got home from the hospital and was in terrible pain and just feeling and looking horrible. There is blood seeping through the bottom of the cast but the dr. said that's normal (ick). He is on major pain medications 'round the clock and I have to keep a written log of what to give and when and I also have an alarm clock so I'll know when it's time for the next dose of whatever. He did eat a tiny bit and seemed much better for a couple of hours this afternoon but now the pain is starting to kick in again. They had given him a "block" of anesthesia at the hospital but I think it must be starting to wear off now. I am hoping to get to talk to the surgeon tomorrow. He has a follow up with her next Tuesday.
