A friend of mine whose husband is in the National Guard (and will be serving in Iraq in the not-so-distant future as he has already received his orders) has coordinated with a soldier who is in charge of a platoon in Iraq for some of us mommy friends to get together and send care-packages on a regular basis to her soldiers (yes HER - SHE is in charge of the platoon!). She has assigned two mommies per soldier and we rotate months sending care packages alternately.
I am very excited as I gathered stuff for our soldier today! I can't wait to mail off the package and I hope that it will help to brighten his day when it arrives - even just a little!
I thought I would post about it on our blog in case anyone else that visited here might be interested in sending packages too. I am copying this from an email my friend sent because I think it says it best:
"Don't fret too much about what to send; just send something. Just as important as what's in the package is that you thought enough to send one, and that connection to home is priceless. If he lives in a remote camp that only gets mail a few times a month, there is nothing worse than mail day coming and going without receiving anything. If it's a choice between one big package once, and several small packages often, go for often. Get together with a group of family or friends and take turns each week sending a package."
If you are interested in helping out you can either let me know and I can connect you with my friend or you can check out this website for yourself.....

The boys will be writing letters to our soldier and will be very involved with this. What a valuable life-lesson this will be for them.
Ken's brother will be leaving for Afghanistan on Labor Day for four months. Once we have his info. the boys, while sad to see their Uncle go at all, are looking forward to sending him lots of goodies in the mail too!
Peace.
