a beautiful black cat wandered into our yard........layed down and.......passed away! Right out in the open.....where everyone could see it!
First, I was sooo distraught over the cat...I think it was one of the kittens that was born almost in that exact spot two summers ago. :(
Then I was sooooo worried that the boys would see it. Christopher gets upset if you step on an ant, Eddie is a sensitive kid and Nicholas is such an animal lover he wants to be a vet when he grows up.
Animal Control was coming to take it and I was afraid if I moved or covered it they wouldn't find it if I wasn't here when they came and I had no idea when they would come. But I really didn't want the boys to see it.... I was really afraid that this kind of thing could traumatize them.
But it was a beautiful day and they wanted to play outside. So I told them they could but had to stay out of the yard because Daddy sprayed some poison out there for the weeds. I figured that would scare them.
But it didn't. Next thing I knew Chris comes in and says there's a dead monkey out in the backyard! Followed by Nicholas & Eddie talking up a storm about the "Dead Cat Mystery." They were FASCINATED with trying to figure out how the cat died! So they each got notepads and pencils and went out try to solve the case of the Dead Cat Mystery.....
The black thing on the ground beside the tree.....is the dead cat....

When the Animal Control man came later that night the boys ran out and told him all of their observations......incidentally there is no real explanation for the cause of death, the eyes were clear, there was no discharge from the mouth, no bites, cuts or markings on the body, it looked like a perfectly healthy (aside from being dead!) cat of about two years of age. So, we're just gonna go with the boys findings...."dead by net.."
Nicholas's notes.....
That night the boys got a MAJOR case of the SILLIES and put on a very Funny show for us!!!! Hard to believe this the same Eddie & Nicholas that were sooooooo shy together in preschool! I think they're over that! LOL!!!!

They had a captive audience!
Nigh-nigh my sweet boys! I love you!!!

But I'm happy to see the boys have the makings of very good investigators .... look out CSI, here they come!
