(It is actually Sunday May 6th that I'm getting this post up but I've been working on it since April 29th which is when I saved it as a draft - the whole "flood" & "foot" ordeals have slowed down my blogging a bit! Go figure! LOL!)
Life has been absolutely surreal around here ever since we evacuated the house that Sunday night on April 15th! Since then Ken was rescued by the army along with some of our neighbors (see pics in another post down below), the boys and I became gypsies for a while living between Noni & Pop's house and Grandma's house (the boys each missed a week of school), then we came home to an endless job of post-flood cleanup (which is ongoing), then Ken fell at work and broke the heel of his foot into five peices (not counting the smaller ones), then we managed to celebrate Christopher's 5th birthday the day after!
I now have two big files that I have to keep handy daily...the infamous "Flood File" and "Foot File!" We are now dealing with insurance adjusters on both ends, workers comp headaches (which Ken says is more painful than his heel injury), and the ongoing cleanup!
I know, I know..."when it rains it pours!"
Ken is doing well so far and is expected to have surgery some time next week. Two orthopedic surgeons have looked at him and both have said they won't do this surgery because he really, really needs a specialist. He will be seeing someone on Monday (tomorrow) that is supposed to be very good and hopefully we will get some good news then. The other two dr's have said that he will need plates and pins followed by future bone fusions sometime post-surgery. They have said it is about a six month to a year recovery but for Ken that means about three months! As you all know, he is an extremely strong and motivated person. Now it is a matter of keeping him comfortable and his spirits up. The boys have been LOVING spending so much time with Daddy!
It is all pretty overwhelming right now and we know that the next few months will be challenging. But we also know that while it seems like a scary, negative situation we are convinced that there will be many positives to come from it. (One is that I've lost at least 10 pounds so far since the flood!) We are also very aware of just how lucky we are that he landed on that heel or it could've been a lot worse.
Here are some pictures from the last month.....

Here are some pictures of Ken's foot & knee....
These are from right after it happened....now his leg is black, yellow & purple up to his knee.
(I'm sure he'll be thrilled when he finds out I've posted these pics on the Internet.....Shhhh...)
